Resident Evil: Village is a single-player survival horror game. The story continues from the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Ethan Winters, now living in relative peace with his wife Mia and newborn daughter Rose, is suddenly thrust back into horror when his family is attacked and Rose is abducted. His search leads him to a remote Eastern European village overshadowed by a mysterious castle and four ruling lords who each hold a piece of the key to his daughter’s fate. As Ethan uncovers the truth about the village and its supernatural-seeming inhabitants, he is forced to confront both grotesque monsters and his own connection to a larger conspiracy.
Gameplay blends first-person survival horror with action-oriented combat. Players must explore interconnected environments ranging from the central village to a gothic castle, factories, and swamps, each ruled by a different enemy faction. Combat involves firearms, melee weapons, and defensive blocking, with resource management playing a key role in survival. Ammunition, health items, and crafting materials are limited, requiring players to scavenge and prioritize inventory use carefully.
Progression is tied to exploration and puzzle-solving. Locked doors, hidden mechanisms, and environmental riddles must be solved to advance, often rewarding players with weapons, key items, or shortcuts back to earlier areas. Inventory is managed with a grid-based attache case system that allows rearrangement of weapons and supplies for maximum efficiency. Crafting recipes expand over time, letting players create ammunition or healing items using gathered components.
A major feature is the Duke, a merchant who appears throughout the game. Players can buy weapons, upgrades, and supplies, as well as sell treasures looted from enemies and the environment. Cooking ingredients gathered from hunting animals can be given to the Duke to prepare meals, granting permanent stat bonuses such as increased health or reduced damage.
An additional Mercenaries mode offers arcade-style combat challenges where players clear zones of enemies within a time limit to earn high scores.
